One of the earliest producers of artichoke relish was Mrs. W. C. hane. She started this in 1918 at her home cannery at Hickory Grove Plantation in Fort motte, South Carolina. The original recipe is unchanged and has been passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who continue its production today. Other products offered from her recipes are whole artichoke pickle, pickled okra, plum sauce, marmalades, peach pickles and cabbage and onion relish, better known as Chow Chow.
